MARI KAWE KAWE KITO KECEK KELATE......

Our trip to Kelantan was splendid. Definitely unforgettable!! We left Rawang (my cousin's place) at 6.30am on Monday morning sans breakfast, in order to reach Rantau Panjang before the hot afternoon sun made its appearance. The view on the way was breathtaking to say the least, in the highlands just before Karak and especially so in the hilly Gua Musang town of Kelantan.

We stopped for lunch at Kota Bahru and had a first hand experience of Kelantanese food and the stuff we would be eating for the next 4 days. The Nasi Goreng was ultra-SWEEET!! It seems these Malaysians up north has a rather sweet tooth and love sugar in most everything they eat.

We reached Rantau Panjang in the late afternoon and Boy! was I surprised to know that my uncle's house is basically the last house before Thailand. The Sungai Golok that separates the two country was literally three steps away from the house and you could actually just wade across the river into Thailand.

Early the next morning, we left for Golok in two cars. My uncle did not allow us to bring our own cars especially ours since its a Singapore car so we went in his and his brother-in-law's car.
Thats the immigration complex of Rantau Panjang.

Everything was a steal there. Latest Euro Teams jerseys were going at a mere RM29.00/- (BTW they look so "real" it will take an expert to tell the difference) As expected my cousin's husband, a die-hard Man-U & England fan and The Don who swears by the German team, bought every jersey of their favourite team on display.

There were lots and lotsa shops selling blouses, t-shirts and lingerie at prices a good deal below normal. There were also lotsa shops selling household items and beautiful handicrafts. Truly a shopping haven!!!!

Yes the rice in the Nasi Kerabu is really BLUE !!!

The food is Kelantan is hhmm...unique. The local staple is Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang & Nasi Berlauk. All of which takes some tastebud adjustment on THE DON's and my part. The Ayam Percik however was SUPER DELICIOUS!!!! Outta this world I tell you!!!!!

We spend an entire day in Kota Bahru shopping. We wanted to eat the famous Roti Naan and Sup Tulang Gear Box (The Don's fav) but too bad both were not available. We stopped by Pasar Siti Khadijah to get the much coveted, hand-drawn, authentic Batik Malaysia and lots n lots of tudung. Also the mouth-watering serunding daging and budu.

The next day, we made our way to Kuantan to meet my uncles, aunts n cousins for the usual family gathering. The journey this time was even more breathtaking. The sea landscape all along Trengganu made us feel we were in the Carribean... and makes the seas of Sentosa looks like the drain in comparison. Seriously!!

Too bad we didn't have enough time to stop a while in Trengganu. I'd love to go back there and enjoy the sand, the sea and the sun. Next trip, hopefully!!!!
