Air Mata Keinsafan......

Very very early on monday morning, we got a call from my cousin saying his mother had just passed away. She was relatively healthy, having just came back from my grandmother's home. Luckily since it was the school hols, 3 of her children and their families were spending the night and so they managed to be by her side during her last breath.

One of her daughters, (the eldest) and her husband, however was in Penang for the school hols. They got on the next flight home immediately on receiving word. We were afraid she would not be able to see her mother for the last time but just before the Jenazah was to be "kapankan" she arrived at the door. Looking at her crying her heart out and asking why she did not get a chance to see her mother for one last time, a feeling of "keinsafan" surged through every one of us present.

Such is the transient state of life. Sometimes we forget this is so and make plans as if we are going to live forever. It takes an incident like this to shake some senses into us and make us realise how ephemeral everything in this life is. That is of course not to say that we should not live life to the fullest but we have to always keep in mind that there is another life waiting for us, a far more eternal one.

We tend to take the people around us for granted, thinking they will always be there for us. Especially our parents, siblings, and spouses. We dun consciously conceive the fact that everytime we leave our parent's house, for example, we don't really know for sure that we will see them again alive.

And of course the all-important question, should our life be taken from us this very next minute, are we ready to make the journey to the hereafter? Are we prepared to answer for all our wrongdoings? Have we gathered enough amalan to help us ?

I shudder as I ponder my own answers to these questions. Maybe you should too ..........
